THE MATERIAL & IMPACT
Our journals are crafted from smooth vegetable-tanned bovine leather sourced in Italy. This traditional tanning method uses natural tannins extracted from plants and tree bark, allowing the leather to age naturally and develop a rich patina over time.
Unlike heavily treated industrial leathers, vegetable-tanned leather remains alive with character. Each hide carries subtle variations in tone, natural markings, and veins that reflect its authentic origin.
These details are not imperfections — they are the signature of genuine leather and part of what makes each piece unique.
Over time, the leather evolves, becoming deeper in color and softer in touch, telling the story of the life it accompanies.
The leather used for our journals comes from recovered surplus materials within the Italian luxury fashion industry.
By utilizing existing hides that would otherwise remain unused, we reduce the need for producing new materials and help minimize waste generated by the fashion supply chain.
This approach allows us to significantly reduce the environmental footprint associated with leather production while preserving the value of exceptional materials.
